Things I Am Liking
Many non-so-little special moments like the colors of a dinning room walls, a podcast, Operation School Bell, and more.
A few days ago, a friend I hadn’t talked to in a while asked how I was.
I am doing really good,
I witnessed myself texting, without much thinking.
It’s true, I am doing quite well even if nothing “special” happened.
But is it true?
Because if I look more carefully, there have been many not-so-little “special” moments, crumbs, slivers of ordinary lately.
They have been conversations that brought insight. They have been little joys and rewards of my work. They have been profound moments of writing, moments of rest when I was sick followed by moments of healing, moments of community and fun, moments of honesty and vulnerability.
These are the things I have been liking:
This view from the kitchen:
When we bought this house, the walls of the dining room were dark panels of wood, originals from the late 1920s. When I decided to bleach them and transform them into my dream French-inspired farmhouse colors, I went with a shade from Farrow & Ball called Borrowed Light. Never was there a more perfect name for a color: these walls borrow the gorgeous light from the garden and make it different and welcoming at every hour of the day. My relationship with this house changed when I colored the walls of my dining room: every day I pause, look at them from the kitchen, and smile with a sense contentment and gratitude that feeds the soul.
