Things I Am Liking
What I have been liking through the ebbs and flows of this fascinating, challenging, marvelous time of my life: wise women, licorice, Joseph Campbell, and the secrets of whales.

This past week has been a beautiful, challenging, transforming one. And not in a way that makes me quickly isolate the beautiful from the challenging, or connect the challenging to the transforming; for it all happened in harmony, blended into one another naturally.
I saw the transformation in the challenge, and the beauty in being able to see that challenge was opportunity, not punishment.
I have found myself into a new stage of motherhood, the one in which worries have moved from making sure the baby doesn't put anything in their mouth, to the one of helplessness and lifelong-to-be worry, when a parent must learn their role is to be strong, trusted presence for the growing child, but not the savior from the outer world the growing child is dipping their growing toes into.
The week ended with two celebrations of life: one for a baby boy about to be born, and one for my friend Mo’s passing to new life.
The journey I am on is palpable. In a way, I feel like my six year old, one step toward the new, one step back into the comfort of what has been. I have been dipping my toes into a new phase of my womanhood while Catherine dipped hers into the new phase of big childhood.
