Things I Am Liking

Hi,
what a relief to find the time to sit down, to remember what I have been liking during these busy, challenging weeks.
I have been taking notes for this column since September 21st, a hot Saturday just two days after Ben’s surgery.
I was tired and worried.
I wore a pair of pants that conjured autumn, and brought along a navy jacket I would not wear, because it was still summer.
I am finishing this on October 14th; it’s chilly, my arms are cold and I am too lazy to go get a sweater. I am wearing a new pair of jeans to see if the size is right — if they are comfortable and not just pretty, but I have not yet showered or gotten ready for the day.
How much has changed in these three weeks, and how good it feels to remember there are more things I like than things I fear.
